happy hair

May 19, 2009 at 6:41 am (Uncategorized)

my hair is now 11 weeks post relaxer and i’m loving it! i can’t believe it. almost three months without relaxer. right now i can safely and happily say that my hair is looking and feeling the best it has ever. i’m mostly rocking braid outs and hubby doesn’t mind so that’s great. i’m not doing much to it either manipulation or product wise. i only comb it on wash days just to detangle and that’s it. i don’t have fancy products as all the stuff i ordered is still on it’s way. basically what i did the last two times to give me such soft, shiny soft popping curls, soft hair is basic. i pre-pooed with a pantene wash out cheapie conditioner, castor oil, olive oil, coconut oil and shea butter. no heat for 45 mins under plastic cap and doek on that. washed out with shampoo, put same conditioner on hair while i showered.towel dried, added she butter and olive oil and cheapie leave in conditioner by schwarzkopft on semi dried hair and air dried. braided hair when it was 80% dry and left it alone. next day what i had was soft shiny hair. all i do to maintain is braid it up each night after applying olive oil to it. my spary mix has alos worked wonders as it is also moisturizig. use this twice a day. mix of water, olive oil, castor oil, peppermint oil. on my scalp mix of emu oil, castor oil(mostly), olive oil and peppermint oil. i have noticed after two weeks that my hair is definately thicker….i apply on scalp every other night.

i think i’m gonna continue with my stretch….go for 16 weeks f possible, that’s end of june. the only reason i want to relax is soft hair nad i have that now!

i’ve order protein conditioner, moisture conditioner, leave in, repair serum and moisturiser all from elasta qp except the conditioners. i will use all of tehm especially the leave-in, repair serum but will also continue with shea butter and olive oil. so the moisturiser may have to take a back seat! i will be rocking braid outs for a long long ime coming! just have to learn to make them cute hairstyles. so easy, no heat, no combing no fiddling.

holy grail!!!!

May 1, 2009 at 6:22 am (Uncategorized)

yay finally. i could not be happier today. my order arrived with 1kg bentonite clay, 50ml peppermint essential oil, 1kg castor oil!!!!! i think i have made an oil for my hair that i really really love. castor oil ofcourse promotes hair growth so it’s in there, jojoba oil cos i have read some good things about it on hair and cos i loooooove it on my face, emu oil cos it promotes hair growth and i hate it on my face, peppermint oil cos it stimulates the scalp and smells devine. i mixed all up and put in my oil hair growth oil bottle. smells wonderful and i love the tinglining of the peppermint oil and the whiff i get of it now and then! so happy. this i will use forever just like jojoba oil. i’m so glad i’m finding my staples nad this combination is proven oils. so hopefully in the next three months i will have a growth spurt.

i have decided to do crown and glory and relax only when the baby is three months old when i can actually have the time to do my hair lol and as a treat to myself for all the hard work i’ve done and raising a beautiful family. i washed today so my scalp feels lovely….

i was thinking this morning while i was deep conditioning my hair that it would be nice to use some sort of growth aid. but with being pregnant and all i probably wouldn’t be able to use it happily. then i found out some info about emu oil being used to stimulate hair follicles and help in hair growth! yay because i have some on the way for my skin. i will use this on my hair line as well once a day to prevent a receding of the hair line. so happy. needless to say i will also buy msm powder and olive oli to mis in with the conditioner and emu oil. i just hope i don’t have build up. but i shouldn’t i thinkh.

today’s conditioner went very well indeed. i put it on dry hair and it didn’t drip and i was able to see that i got it everywhere gosh it smells lovely. so now my hair is almost dry and is very happy . it was starting to itch and look funny on tuesday. i think it’s spoilt now! it knows it needs a wash every 5- 7 days. but thatworks fine for me. i actually can’t do seven days so it’s more like every 5 days.

well, here’s to happy growing !!!!

well it’s been 7 weeks  since my last relaxer now. i got braids 3 weeks ago, so 4 weeks post. i had to cos i just couldn’t manage it without all the products i needed. so i did the best braids i have done so far. they looks so nice. i have decided i’m gonna strecht this relaxer till december 16 when i will get a relaxer. i will braid and wear wigs in the interim. should be very hard but interesting. i got the pantene dmr conditoner today and a leave in. was hrd to use the conditioner in the shower so now i will be using it on dry hair then shampoo after. the leave in is great. that’s all i’m gonna do to my hair really. really really simple. will enrich conditioner with olive oil but that’s all. leave it on for 1 hr and shampoo and leave in. yay! will undo theses braids on june 16 and re-do on june 30.

three month trial

March 27, 2009 at 12:06 am (Uncategorized)

i have some corrows in my head right now. did them myself, they’re not bad but not great either. he likes them. i washed my hair and did a protein teratment. came out real good but i was freaking out about the blowdryer. i can’t wait to get the diffuser. anyway i have decided to be a bit radical while i wait to have all the stuff i need. i am going to keep my hair under a wig i these plaits for three months??? i think it’s very doable. i mean people keep their hair in braids for that long and in weaves for that long.mine is better cos it’s my own hair i think, it’s not under any pressure.

  • i will co-wash twice a week to keep it moist and clean
  • apply castor oil on scalp every other day
  • apply aloe vera gel nightly on scalp
  • seal ends with coconut oil nightly
  • clarify once a month or every 5th wash and apply protein

i think this will give me great growth and the low manipulation and care will do good. i am planning to take them down on 30th june and relax and trim on 15th july then braid again on 30th july till 30th october leave it and baby it the whole of november to realx on december 20th in time for annivesary and christmas . i am so excited. hopefully by then i will have all i need to look after it well till braiding again in feb.i will follow the same routine in 2010. hopefully this year i will reach full shoulder lenght and next year atleast bra strap.my new goal in midback lenght which should be done by end 2011. i feel like once it’s bra strap i can wear it out. only when i am working and have an income will i be able to wear it out cos i can afford it. till then i’ll just be growing it. everybody will be in shock!

so yeah that’s my plan and i’m sticking to it! i can’t see the pitfalls. except maybe being bored. if i get bored i suppose i can undo it every 5th week to do the claryfying, yep i think i’ll do that so i can still see and touch my hair. it’s just that i’m so scared of dealing with the new growth!!!!!

simplicity

March 23, 2009 at 5:05 am (Uncategorized)

well i kind of reviewed my hair plans and aspiratins cos it was jusy looking too much and too expensive. i realised what a product junkie i am!!! lol.

anyway i’m gonna make it real simple. firstly my hair is doing great. after the relaxer and all, it’s been about three weeks now. i’m planning to relax again on the 30th of  june so that will make it a 16 week stretch and i should be rewarded with growth by then ! i have been washing weekly na i have minimal breakeage. gotta try airdrying now. i just love the feel of heat on my scalp and how my hair looks. i think maybe just drying to about 80% should allow heta use to come down considerably and use the heat protectant ofcourse. when i washed it this time i am so broke and have no conditioner so i didn’t use nay! was so nervous. anywho i sed shea butter and the heat stuff on semi dry hair then blow dried it and it looked nad felt great. so moist and moisturised. think i’m not gonna wash again till mid april??? yeah it’s scray that’s like 3 weeks from now. i can do a protein  dc but i think my hair just needs moisture. i have done too may proteina dn form now on will do once a month.mybe month end i can buy some cheapie conditioner??? probably and use that instead.

so that’s it really.  i need to start taking pics of my hair so i can see the progress. i’m gonna go for 12 week stretches till year end but i loooove my hair right now. i thought about putting in braids but i’m just gonna miss it so much. i love the wash days….so i’m gonna wig it till year end. just have to find and buy a fierce wig….

postponement???

February 20, 2009 at 1:00 am (Uncategorized)

i plaited mt hair yesterday just into smaller bantu knots because i want to keep these in longer, for atleast a month.my hair looks great though, the knots are really long and i don’t look like i’m almost 12 weeks post relaxer, i hav also decided that i will only relax in june i think it is. basically i will miss the march relaxer and do which ever one is next. i have also decided that as soon as i can afford it i will but extensions and do braids. that will probably be in april sometime. so that’s that. i will still relax with black silk, but on saturday i was in the city and i was soooo tempted to just go and buy the mizani butter blends and be bone straight since i will be flat ironing and straightening it bone straight anyway with balck silk, i reasoned. at the end of the day i’m glad to have spent that cash on siya’s school stuff. i would have so regretted it. even though i will be straightening it, i will still just blow dry and make it more a natural feel. i can’t wait to do it. i will make my hair so strong before then, atleast two weeks of dee loving. and the relaxer i will make so yummy with msm, saa, oils etc and it’s already a safe mild one so it should go well. i was thinking though, what if my hair is so thick and so bushy it looks like i haven’t done anything at all? then i remembered coconut milk and baking soda and lime and all those good things. it looks like i will be using heat once a week depending on how i feel. i will either just blow dry for a bushier look i guess for a  lack of a better word or blow dry and flat iron for a relaxed look or blow dry and rollerset. hopefully these styles will last a week till next wash. so my hair will need major taking care of with heat 4 times a month! i will have to see about that.

hair products

like i said, i’m gonna make my own. finally today i have googled myself out but i have found somebody who sells amla powder it looks like and brahmi powder, these are indian and i’ll add them to my deep conditioner every week. i also found an online shop where i can get all my oils for face, body and hair. i am super excite about that one cos they are really reasoable. i told hubby and he’s supportive. the most exciting find was MSM which i will put in almost everything on wash day and on face and body and also AHA was a good find for my face and body lotion and SUPER exciting is the elusive SAA !!!! this will also be face, body and hair. mostly i want it for strengh in my hair though and to add even more i will put crushed garlic yes, garlic. it helps alot with shedding and breaking hair. i will do this for atleast 2 months before i relaxe again. considering the financial situation, i will only be able to get everything in April at the latest so it means i will have to move relaxer to a june date. not that i’m complaining at all. it will also be a nice experience to see how my hair feels and lookswith relaxer for 5 months of proper handling and products. but it means buying a new wig !! yay. $100 should do fine and i will have amagoda underneath and undo weekly for wash day.

i feel really good aboutthis turn of  events and i thank God for His leading beacuse it’s not me. so bsl here i come. atleast if i can get to healthy apl by december i will be thrilled then june next year to bsl and then enjoy !!!  i ope the relaxer will be good to keep the six bottles for 15 months or so. i will have to do my hair every 10 weeks or so which will take it about 12 months storage for the last one plus the time on the shelf…..hmmm.

egg,yoghurt and oils

February 17, 2009 at 2:02 am (Uncategorized)

i am really broke. will have money later today i hope. anywho i was waiting to get all the ingredients in my wish list before i could wash my hair so i missed the weekly wash on saturday. but today is tuesday and my hair was itching and screaming for a wash. i had been doing the daily water spritz and put in wgo i think twice so it was kind of needing a wash. itchy hair means dirty hair right? so i tentatively undid my bantu knots and braced myself for handling a nightmare of breaking tangled air when i finished washing it and lots of breakage and i am so scared of using the dryer without heat protection.

so i washed it with my cream of nature shampoo, just waiting for it to finish then i’ll try the baking soda shampoo. anyway i detangle with a wide toothed comb while washing and put on my drying cap. i never ever rub the towel all over my hair to dry cos that gives mad tangles. my drying cap came with a gift towel pack for me and kehinde from ma for christmas. anywho it is just a towel shaped like a hoodie that you wrap around your head. so i just pat that dry. i had no deep conditioner which was one of my major concerns. so i mixed 3 tablespoons of  yoghurt, 1 whole egg and my oil mix of wgo, cator oil and coconut oil. mixed it all up and put it in. after and hour i washed. it felt dry and stringy in the shower but once sort of dry it was really really soft so i detangled with no product in and combed in sections first with wide tooth comb and then followed each section with small toothed comb. small tooth comb on my wet 4b hair 10 weeks post relaxer ! i still can’t believ it. my hair is so  smooth so i’m really pleasently surprised. this is sort of my dc anyway so it worked out good. now i’m like does my hair really need black silk relaxer or can i be natural? i’ve decided yes. the roots are rough. i probably will do it every 12 weeks anyway so it’s not too much.

yay!

natural relaxer???

February 13, 2009 at 1:42 am (Uncategorized)

well i hope i won’t be sorry for doing this but it seems i have found the relaxer system i have ben looking for for years. i have decided that once and for all i do not want bone straight hair and would just like a looser curl pattern therefore easy to manage. anywho i then thought about this relaxer i had used at varsity and also when i got married under the braids. it’s made in south africa and have had a nightmare of  a time trying to find and buy it online. so i gave up and started using dark and lovely. my hair was never bone straight but i just didn’t like the way it felt. so back to the old relaxer Black Silk it’s called. i asked my frien back home to buy it for and that i would send her money to but and ship it to me but now it’s workingout way too expensive to buy a relaxer that costs about $3! so i have been looking for ‘natural relaxers’ it’s sounds the same if not better because of the harmless natural products they use. oils and butters and the like. but it can’t be all that natural cos it does loosen the curl. it will not make it bone straight just loosen.perfect !

what i like about this is that i can wear my hair in a variety of styles. i can wash and wear for a more tamed afro look cos my hubby doesn’t mind head wraps i’d just have to rock it well, i can blow dry for a not bone straight relaxed look or i can flat iron for bone straight look and i can still cornrow it and it will have lots of the thickness and movement. jsut what i need. so i will buy it from the states. i hope this ends my hair woes. now that i know how to take care of my hair i potentially don’t have to hide it that much this year. i can curl it and be creative and enjoy it knowing i haven’t stripped it. hopefully by end next month my hair will have a new lease on life. it hasn’t been realxed since November 30, i ws aiming for a 16 week stretch but it will be more like 15 weeks. form now on though i will probabbly go for 8-10 wees. i am so excited. i will continue wih my normal hair care between relaxers and wild growth hair oil. my hair should thrive. it will be like i have natural 4a hair !
